The sport of triathlon is unique in that an athlete must be good not in one sport, but in three sports: swimming, cycling, and running. Similarly, the sport of duathlon is a demanding one requiring a repeat performance in two sports: running, and cycling. As you can imagine, the duration of the events combined with the need to train for more than one sport, dictates that training volume becomes high. This being the case, we recognize the importance of designing programs that take into consideration the physical demands of all disciplines, and plan each program accordingly. With limited training time available to most individuals, training quality is essential. The PEAK Centre has developed a Triathlon and Duathlon Training Program aimed at optimizing training time, while at the same time optimizing training adaptation in all three sports.
In order to obtain your baseline fitness levels, we can do a complete blood lactate analysis via the CompuTrainer and your bike, or on one of our treadmills. After thorough analysis of the 'assessment' information, the Peak Centre exercise physiologists can precisely determine your individual aerobic training zones and build your personalized triathlon or duathlon program around this data.
The Triathlon/Duathlon Program
This is an integrated, full service program that combines state of the art physical assessment, individualized exercise prescription, periodic performance review, hardware, software and analytical services. This program can be done at home or at the Peak Centre as an individual or within a group environment. Followed properly, this program will push your body to stress the necessary muscles for continued improvement by locking you into your individual training zones and ensuring quality training. No more wasted hours! Using the Computrainer bicycle ergometer, as well as indoor treadmill or outdoor running, this program is designed to increase leg power, correct muscle imbalances, increase race pace and overall speed!
Aerobic base, aerobic endurance, speed intervals, VO2 max intervals, speed endurance, and specific strength intervals are just a few of the necessary elements that must be trained in a triathlon specific program.
